Why Hat Size Matters More Than Most People Realise

The difference between a hat that is worn once and a hat that becomes a lifelong favourite is often surprisingly small.

A few millimetres can transform how a hat feels, how it sits and how often it is worn.

Within the Mister Miller workshop, fit is never treated as an afterthought. Decades of British hatmaking have demonstrated that comfort begins long before a customer puts on a hat. It begins with proportion, pattern development and accurate sizing.

Unlike many mass-produced hats, which are designed around broad sizing ranges, our hats are made in specific sizes to preserve shape, balance and comfort. This allows the hat to sit naturally on the head rather than relying on excessive elastic, oversized fitting bands or hidden adjustments.

A properly sized hat should feel secure without pressure. It should sit comfortably without pinching. Most importantly, it should feel natural enough that you quickly forget you are wearing it.
